Author Talk & Book Signing: Hick by Sarah Miller

Friday, June 13, 5:00–6:00 PM
Galvan Armory Community Room, 51 N 5th St, Hudson, NY 12534

The Friends of the Hudson Area Library and the Hudson Literacy Fund invite the community to a compelling evening with acclaimed author Sarah Miller, as she presents her powerful young adult nonfiction book, Hick.

Hick tells the remarkable true story of Lorena “Hick” Hickok, a trailblazing journalist whose life intersected fatefully with history. From a difficult upbringing to becoming one of the most respected reporters of her time, Hick’s journey took a dramatic turn when she was assigned to cover Eleanor Roosevelt during Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1932 presidential campaign. What began as a professional assignment quickly became a personal turning point—sparking a deep, complex relationship between Hick and the future First Lady.

Based on thousands of intimate letters exchanged between the two women, Hick is a story of ambition, resilience, and a love that defied convention. Miller’s engaging narrative brings to life a lesser-known chapter of American history, offering readers of all ages a chance to connect with the courage and complexity of two extraordinary women.

This event is free and open to the public. Copies of Hick will be available for purchase and signing.
